The history of irresistible men...

I love all things historical, and historical romance is even more intriguing especially during this love fest called Valentine's Day.  In Swoon: Great Seducers and Why Women Love Them, Betsy Prioleau goes back in time and studies the how, what, and why behind attraction.  Bite-size tidbits from the legends of ancient Greece bump into fantasy story lines from contemporary American romance novels prove that it isn't Mr.Perfect who wows us, but a guy who is gently flawed....super sweet!

Small Town Big Festival

In Baja California, just 45 miles north of Cabo San Lucas is a sleepy surfing town with a penchant for art...Todos Santos.  Looking for authentic Mexican culture, well look no further and fall in love with this quaint town as other celebs have, including R.E.M guitarist Peter Buck.  Peter was so enamoured that he bought a house and founded the Todos Santos Music Festival in 2012.

The festival is held three weekends in January (so hurry and book now, or make plans for next year) to experience artists like the Posies, the Venus 3, as well bands from Mexico City.  Need more motivation...All proceeds go to the Palapa Society, which funds scholarships to local kids.

Designer Dessert

So I will admit it..I am kind of a preppy girl...cardigans, structured dresses, etc.  Based on my style, Milly is typically one of my go-to designers.  The brand just moved up another notch (if that was even possible) in my book.  Milly designer, Michelle Smith shares this cherished Bread Pudding with peaches and carmel recipe from her great-great grandmother...six generations of sweet treats!

Bread Pudding with peaches and carmel recipe

2 cups fresh peaches, peeled, pitted, and halved

1 can sweetened condensed milk

3 eggs, lightly beaten

1¼ cups hot water
 ¼ cup butter, melted

1 tsp. ground cinnamon

1 tsp. vanilla extract

4 cups French bread, torn into small pieces

Caramel sauce:
½ cup brown sugar

½ cup butter

2 Tbsp. light corn syrup
 1 Tbsp. rum

Preheat oven to 325°F. Grease a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
Chop peaches and lightly mash them in a mixing bowl. Combine sweetened condensed milk and eggs; add them to peaches and mix well. Stir in hot water, melted butter, cinnamon, and vanilla. Stir French bread into custard mixture until bread is completely moistened. Turn pudding into prepared baking dish.
Bake until a knife inserted into center of pudding comes out clean, about 1 hour 10 minutes.

While pudding is baking, combine brown sugar, ½ cup butter, corn syrup, and rum in a saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat and simmer for 3 to 4 minutes, or until just slightly thickened. Let cool.
Serve warm with caramel sauce drizzled on top.
