A tell-tale sign that you've been up past bedtime and possibly drinking a bit too much is dark and/or puffy under eye area. One of my friends in college used to get terrible under-eye puff and swore by sticking two spoons in the freezer for a minute or two before putting the curved part on her eyes to help bring down the swelling. There are specific creams and potions you can buy to treat darkness and puffiness, but I just use my everyday eye creams (Philosophy's Renewed Hope in a Jar Eye and Bobbi Brown's Extra Eye Repair Cream) liberally and let the area soak up as much hydration as it can.
